ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – The U.S. Coast Guard Station in St. Clair Shores is opening its doors on July 12 for the public to explore its operations.
There will be appearances by Coast Guard Auxiliary mascots, engaging children in promoting safe boating practices. Station staff will be available to answer questions about their vessels and mission objectives, while Coast Guard Recruiting will discuss career opportunities within the USCG.
The station handles diverse missions such as search and rescue, law enforcement, ice rescues, and multi-agency operations. It also collaborates with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on Migrant Interdiction and Cross-Border Maritime Law Enforcement.
Members of the USCG Auxiliary will offer boater safety information and conduct free vessel safety checks at the Blossom Heath parking lot.
Local police and firefighters will join the event, which will feature a search and rescue demonstration with USCG personnel and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Selfridge Air National Guard base.
Those attending the event will be given a tour of the unit and a chance to meet the men and women who perform the duties that go on throughout the year and show your support for what they do. The USCG will also be collecting damaged and worn American Flags for proper disposal.
This free event is designed to promote boater safety and familiarize residents with the active-duty station in Macomb County, highlighting their community service alongside the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
The U.S. Coast Guard Station is at 24802 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores.
