Michigan man facing charges in deadly ATV crash, police say

1 killed, 2 injured; driver arrested

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man is facing charges in connection with an ATV crash that killed one passenger and injured others, police said.

The crash happened at about 2 a.m. on Friday, July 4, on private property on Inman Road in Springfield Township, which is located in Michigan’s Kalkaska County, according to Michigan State Police.

A preliminary investigation shows that the off-road vehicle was carrying five people when it rolled over.

None of the occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, according to police.

One passenger was killed. Another passenger suffered a serious head injury, and a third passenger broke an arm.

The driver, identified as a 33-year-old Albion man, was arrested and taken to the Kalkaska County Jail on the following charges:

  • one count of operating while intoxicated, causing death
  • two counts of operating while intoxicated, causing serious injury

The investigation is ongoing.
