MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – One township in Macomb County is planning to penalize a trash pickup company for delayed service issues.
Clinton Township plans to fine Priority Waste for delays in trash pickup services. This comes after officials across the county received complaints over the past months.

Macomb Township complaints
Some residents in Macomb County have reported frustrations with trash pickup since Priority Waste took over as the trash hauler services from GFL.
“We’re finding days where they don’t show up,” Macomb Township resident Jamie Roe. “I know my neighbors are not very happy about it. I’m not really happy about it.”
Macomb Township Supervisor Frank Viviano said his office has received many complaints.
“Our residents are angry, and they’re justifiably angry, and we are angry, as well,” Viviano said. “It’s infuriating because we rely on our vendors and our contractors to be partners with us as we service our residents. When they fail, we fail.”
Macomb Township officials began exploring their options earlier this month. They scheduled a public hearing for Aug. 13 to gauge the public’s opinion.
Clinton Township to fine company
Meanwhile, another township is taking action of its own.
Clinton Township plans to fine Priority Waste at least $48,000 for delayed service.
Meanwhile, Fraser extended a deal with Priority Waste at a higher cost, even though there have been some complaints about the service there, as well.
“It’s the worst we’ve ever had,” Macomb Township resident Annette Castillo said. “I mean, you take the garbage out when you’re supposed to and maybe haul it up that day, and maybe they won’t.”
Priority Waste response
Priority Waste sent Local 4 the following statement last week.
“Senior management at Priority Waste assured the Macomb Township supervisor a week ago that the half-day to one-day delay in services would get back to normal. The past 21 days of severe weather incidents, such as a tornado, heat indexes of 105 degrees, and a holiday, have contributed to the delays in services. The delays in service will be resolved by the end of this week. New trucks to replace the old trucks will be placed into service quickly. We appreciate the residents of Macomb Township’s patience and understanding.”
